NIOSH Approval for Avon Powered Respirator Offers Global Industrial Market Opportunities

Avon Protection’s premier powered air purifying respirator (ST PAPR), designed to enhance the capability of its new generation FM53 mask, has achieved  National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) certification for industrial protection purpose. This will significantly open up global industrial market opportunities and underlines Avon’s determined move into integrated respiratory protection systems.

The STPAPR is available as an optional extra with the Avon ST53 and ST53SD masks and offers a fully modular powered air supply when operatives are facing extreme respiratory threats from toxic industrial materials (TIMS).  It is relatively compact and takes just moments to attach by using quick connect air line couplings to the mask and straps to locate the unit alongside the air cylinder.

The addition of the STPAPR also provides the high level of serviceability and comfort associated with powered air while retaining the ability to switch instantly to the positive pressure SCBA mode when required.

According to James Wilcox, Avon’s Global Director of Marketing and Product Management, “This advanced powered respirator has already won accolades from our North American law enforcement customers, who have been quick to partner this advanced respiration system with our  FM53 mask as part of their respiratory protection programs.  NIOSH approval will now enable Avon to support and extend our FM53’s established success in new global   industrial markets, including Europe, the Middle East and Australasia.”

The STPAPR is NIOSH certified for industrial protection with the FM53 against a defined range of toxic industrial materials (TIMS) and particulates at a high efficiency level.

NB: The ST53 system utilizes the NIOSH certified FM53 APR facemask as part of the ST53 system. The FM53 APR facemask can be configured to function as an SCBA, PAPR or CCBA. NIOSH does not certify or approve respirators for multi-function, combination use.  The use of the FM53 mask as a means for CBRN protection with an SCBA, PAPR or CCBA has not yet been approved by NIOSH.
