Gunshot Detection Systems

01dB-Metravib is the world wide leader for Gunshot Detection Systems (GDS). These situation awareness systems allow automatic detection and accurate localisation of small and medium calibres shots (from 5.56mm up to 30mm and more), as well as RPGs, mortars and anti-tank missiles. Named PILARw, these systems provide real-time alert and display the gunshot origin in grid coordinates allowing to pinpoint the threat.

In service among more than 20 countries, the Combat Proven PILARw systems contribute efficiently to Force Protection.

Thanks to its long-term experience in the acoustic field, 01dB-Metravib is able to offer a full range of systems designed to meet specific application requirements.

Small Arms Localisation

PILARw Ground Version for Base Protection can be coupled with PIVOT, an observation system featuring long range camera and optionally thermal camera that is automatically oriented by PILARw in the direction of the shooter. For large camps protection, several systems can be linked together to provide the desired area coverage. In case of operation in hostile areas, PILARw/PIVOT provide efficient protection against insurgents attacks or harassing fire.

Enhanced Situation Awareness

PILARw Vehicle Version for reconnaissance and convoy protection with unique "on the move" function: shooter position is available as grid coordinates and graphically relative to the heading of the vehicle. This information is updated when the vehicle moves allowing permanent correct information to the crew. In addition, the system provides calibre and range information for prioritisation of the threat.

Coupled with Remote Weapon Stations (RWS), PILARw will allow automatic positioning of the RWS in the direction the shooter. Hence, in case of ambush, PILARw will provide auto-protection of the vehicle and of the convoy, allow evasive action and threat neutralisation. Thanks to accurate real-time information provided, PILARw will save ammunitions and contribute to reduce the stress of the crew.

PILARw can also be linked to a Battlefield Management System (BMS) for friend/foe identification and sharing of the information between vehicles and command.

This system works for all type of land platforms as well as for Fast Patrol Boats.

Small-arms Warning System for Helicopter

PILARw Helicopter system for in flight real-time warning of shot attack. Although helicopters are producing high noise levels, the skills of 01dB-Metravib in combined sensor design and signal processing allow detection of small arms shots. Helicopters are vulnerable in low altitude, search and rescue missions and for obvious weight reasons armouring can only be limited to few parts and smaller calibres. However, critical parts of helicopters are generally hit by several rounds. Thanks to PILARw system, the crew will be immediately informed of a shot attack and direction of the threat in order to avoid successive impacts and critical failure.

Gun Mounted PILARw for Dismounted Soldier

PILARw Dismounted Soldier is updated with new gun mounted sensor (vest mounted sensors version is still available) providing automatic guidance to the soldier for immediately returning the shot. The MMI provides not only shooter location information but also graphical indication on the gun orientation to pinpoint the target.

These systems are composed of state of the art sensors (one or several upon configuration) and processing unit with embedded software. Display is available on military laptop or PDA. Easy to install and operate, PILARw systems require very little training.
