Its core business is the entertainment sector which amongst others includes Audio Visual, Sound and Lighting, Theatre, Exhibition and Events. However, 5 Star is particularly well equipped to design and manufacture cases for all industry sectors including Military applications. We have the ability to tackle almost any project, large or small, complex or simple and pride ourselves on prompt and efficient service, with extremely quick delivery times.

In 2001, 5 Star Cases Limited further strengthened its position by acquiring Mossman Trunks, and Custom Transit Cases from Custom Cases Limited. This added further brands and products to 5 Star’s already extensive range of cases and foam inserts.

The company is based in the heart of the East Anglian Fens and occupies a site of just under 29,000 square feet which includes production, administration and storage facilities. It is well equipped with modern production systems including three Thermwood CNC machining centres, four automatic and semi-automatic extrusion profile saws, four hot-melt adhesive systems and three foam bandknife saws. Together with two die-cut foam hydraulic presses, extrusion profile punches and a panel laminating line, this ensures 5 Star’s manufacturing capabilities are second to none.

Case specifications:

Lite-Flite

Lite-Flite represents the perfect balance between weight and rigidity without compromising security. Ideal for Medical, Electronics, Optical, Computers, Tools, Test Equipment and Sample Case applications. Lite-Flite cases find uses in many applications and industries. They are particularly suited to presentation and display cases. Small to medium sized equipment is recommended although high quality plywood carcasses ensure strength and durability.

Extensive use of bright nickel and chromium plated fittings are used for durability. Aluminium angle and hybrid location ensures an almost waterproof construction. The vinyl and laminate finished cases can have screen printed logos applied directly to the case for added security and visual appearance.

Internally, cases can be lined with suedette, vinyl, spray painted or, of course, foamed. This foam can be a simple lining, or a complex die cut insert.

Industrial

The Industrial range of cases from 5 Star are the ideal solution for professional users, regularly moving and storing small to medium sized items or intermittently moving larger ones.

Custom built case interiors fit your product like a glove, providing total protection and security in transit. High quality core construction from only the finest materials, including birch plywood, faced with thermoplastic high grade laminates or your choice of a wide range of alternative coverings makes the 5 Star Industrial case the perfect choice. Light Industrial offers a durable approach while not compromising on weight, as the carcass is from 6mm plywood. 30mm aluminium extrusion is groove riveted to leading edges while medium knuckle corners are fitted. On certain dimensions of lid, combined corners and braces are utilised.

Heavy Industrial comprises a 9mm ply carcass while external protection is provided by large ball corners. Large butterfly catches are used (where applicable) however, the extrusions are the same throughout the Industrial range.

Tour Grade

Tour Grade from 5 Star is a professional range of cases of the highest quality and strength, built to withstand the rigors of constant travel. 12mm birch plywood construction with a laminated exterior. 30mm aluminium angle and a dust tight hybrid location fitted to all leading edges.

Super Tour

Based on the popular and existing Tour Grade range, Super Tour utilises the same carcass construction of 12mm birch ply. However, additional strength is afforded by means of an increased aluminium angle of 35mm x 1.75mm section. This extrusion is groove-riveted for added durability.

Custom Transit

Custom Transit is the ideal choice when requiring a cost effective means of protection, while maintaining a high level of durability. The cases are constructed from 6mm ply and benefit from heavy duty zinc and nickel plated fittings. Although a standard range is available from a wide variety of sizes, 5 Star offer a custom build service to meet specific requirements.

LX Range

The LX Range offers a visually stunning and professional transit case which finds many uses.

Particularly suited to smaller and lighter equipment such as tooling, measurement, microphones and laptops etc. The main panels are from 7mm honeycombed polypropylene, being approximately 40% lighter than plywood, although in certain applications, laminated plywood is selected for the main panels. The main construction is anodised aluminium profiles, to which are fixed polyamide glass filled corner nodes. All panels are secured to these profiles using a special polyurethane adhesive. These nodes are secured to the profiles using hydraulic crimp tooling whilst additional fixing using grooved rivets gives extra durability. However, these rivets are internal and therefore enhance the external appearance of the case. Interiors can be foam lined or CNC machined foam inserts to suit specific equipment.

Our stocks of foam sheet, block and facing materials are usually sufficient to meet most requirements. But our suppliers also keep many other foam types including coloured polyethylene, neoprene, natural rubber and expanded EPDM. These can be ordered specially to individual requirements.

IP55 Option

For Military applications, 5 Star’s IP 55 option is particularly suited. Independently tested and certified by TRaC Global Limited. The IP55 option can be included in certain specifications.
