Air Rover Inc – Military Environmental Control Units

Air Rover, Inc. was founded in 1986. For over twenty years, Air Rover, Inc. has been a world leader in the portable air conditioner manufacturing industry. We offer a wide range of state-of-the-art, cost-effective militarized Environmental Control Units (ECUs) and turnkey integration systems consisting of tactical trailer-mounted generators, ECUs, power distribution units and duct storage. Our line of militarized ECUs include custom-designed high ambient, hand-deployable plug and play skid-mounted and/or split units (sometimes ruggedized to meet MIL-STD-810F), precision wall-mounted units for telecommunications and military applications, lightweight units ideal for vehicle- or shelter-mounted applications. Using commercial off the shelf (COTS) components and unique versatile product designs, Air Rover delivers a reliable cooling solution ranging in capacities from 9,000 BTU to 160,000 BTU and 4,300 BTU to 112,500 BTU of heating capacities.

Military Environmental Control Units

In the early 1990’s Air Rover’s introduced environmental control units (ECUs) to its line of air products. The first ECUs were designed to cool command centers for the J-Star program built by Motorola and used in operation in the Gulf War (Desert Storm). Ever since, Air Rover has continued product development in its core business of militarized air conditioning systems widely used in cooling applications for tents, military shelters, satellite communication (SATCOM) systems, military vehicles, radar sites, medical trailers, aircraft hangars, mess halls, shipboard, helicopters, aircraft pre-flight, underground facilities, ground support, unmanned aerial vehicles, etc.

Tent Cooling Systems

Air Rover, Inc. offers a wide range of lightweight field deployable environmental control units (FDECUs) capable of operating in harsh environments of up to 150oF. The Air Rover UltraLight Environmental Control Units are packaged and very versatile units for military on the move. They are designed on a skid with wheel receivers in each corner, and protective handrails useful in protecting the unit. The handrails can also be used to carry the unit with four or more people. The split condenser and evaporator sections allow a tent to slide down between them, eliminating the need for ducts. Deployment methods for tent applications consist of outside ducted and split system, where the evaporator section of the unit in located inside the tent (conditioned space), and the condenser section is outside.

Shelter Cooling Systems

Air Rover engineered a vertical wall mount ECU that delivers 5 tons of cooling in a smaller cabinet than typical 3 ton vertical wall mount ECUs! The Air Rover Wall Mount Series ECUs are compact, lightweight and reliable precision cooling systems designed for cooling electronic equipment in a wide range of ambient temperature environments from -50oF to 150oF. Communications equipment, sensitive electronic equipment and weapons systems enjoy reliable cooling even in the hottest climates due to a high efficiency condenser heat exchanger and rugged scroll compressor. Telecommunications shelters, radar domes, microwave stations, portable buildings, command centers, tactical vehicles and military shelters all benefit from the high efficiency and easy serviceability of Air Rover’s wall mount ECUs.

Split ECUs Systems

Air Rover developed the UltraLight Split Series line of military ECUs as an ideal solution for collective protection environments or hand deployed, split system applications. The lightweight construction of the ULS Series eliminates the need for lift-trucks or lifting equipment for ECU transport. The evaporator and condenser modules feature quick connecting pre-charged flexible hoses to complete the refrigeration circuit. These split systems consist of the same outstanding features of Air Rover's proven UL skid mount Series, with the addition of an nuclear, biological and chemical (NBC) filter connection, quick connect refrigerant lines, integrated handles, and a skid-less base. The split ECU systems are also ideal for satellite communication (SATCOM) applications, where they can be mounted on satellite dish hub to cool the equipment inside. The Evaporator module of the ECU is designed to tilt¬ from 0 to 90 degrees while in operation, with a specially designed L-shaped drain pan, which allows the evaporator section to tilt along with the satellite dish without running the risk of spilling the condensate liquid inside the unit.

Tactical Trailer-mounted Generators and Trailer-mounted ECUs

Air Rover has a long history of providing customers with build-to-order ECU/generator/trailer packages to meet demands for Military Trailer Integration systems. The TM Series consists of a trailer, up to 10 ECUs, and a power generator integrated into one complete air conditioning and heating solution. Air Rover Turn-key integrations also come complete with generators, power distribution units, state-of-the-art MIL-STD-810F certified environmental control units and duct storage, ideal for harsh military environments.
