Habia Cable Group – Military Cables & Connectors

Habia Cable has more than 30 years' experience in the design and manufacture of wires and cables for high performance defence land forces applications. This gives us a comprehensive understanding of customers' requirements for applications ranging from fighting vehicles to field services. We can supply cables for internal crew and engine bay environments and externally mounted equipment services.

Our experience as a major supplier in many European countries enables us to use pioneering materials which are able to meet the majority of internationally recognised specifications. Co-operating closely with your engineering specialists, we can also produce custom design cables to meet specific requirements.

TPS 125 XL - super-flexible, diesel and hot oil resistant cable jacket material

TPS 125 XL is a brand new material developed mainly for use in armoured vehicles and field communications equipment. The material is designed to withstand normal operating temperatures within the engine bay and crew compartments and it has excellent abrasion resistance and diesel and oil resistance, making it the ideal choice for the aggressive environment within an armoured vehicle.

Military Cables, Military Connectors

Installation of equipment, cable and connectors inside tanks, APCs and other vehicles can often be extremley difficult because of severe space restrictions. TPS 125 XL provides the super-flexible solution to meet this challenge - in the tightest spaces.

Both the British Army's Bowman communications system and the Canadian Army's Iris system have been integrated by General Dynamics. Both include demanding specifications on cable jacket materials. The system must operate at a wide temperature range from -40 oC to +70 oC and be able to withstand a range of environmental challenges from desert sands to salt spray corrosion, fluid contamination and solar radiation effects.

Our TPS 125 XL meets the specification requirements for both systems - and cables using this material are specified on the Bowman project.

Aerospace Cables & Connectors

High performance wires specified by the military and commercial aircraft industry must meet the most stringent requirements for airframe wiring and other on-board applications, such as high temperature resistance, small dimensions, low weight, low flame propagation, mechanically tough and chemical resistant.
TKT Airframe Wire – The next generation

We can now offer the exceptional performance of both TKT and light and medium wall extruded XLETFE. Both are released to the UK MOD Defence Standard 61-12 Part 33.

Our aerospace customer base includes the UK MoD, BAE Systems Operations UK, BAE Systems Avionics UK, Westland Helicopters, Saab, Danish Aerotech AS, SABCA of Belgium, EADS LV of France, Thales Avionics of France, EADS Deutschland GmbH and Dornier GmbH.

Current projects include the supply of airframe wire for the major Danish armed forces order for Westland EH101 helicopters.

The main factors affecting the choice of airframe wire are size, weight, safety and cost. In the 1970s and 1980s, polyimide insulated wire was seen as the ideal choice - until it's limitations (its susceptibility to arc tracking) began to emerge.

In 1992, to overcome this Boeing introduced BMS 13-60 (PTFE Polyimide Composite - TKT) to replace MBS 13-51 (Aromatic Polyimide) and in 1994, Mil Specs 22759/80-92 was introduced for TKT. In 2000, the UK Defence Standard 6-12 Part 33 Supplement 008 was introduced for TKT. And in 2002, Habia Cable became the first manufacturer approved to release product to this demanding specification.
Hi-Flex – Military Power Cables

Hi-Flex is a range of highly flexible power cables designed to meet the increasing power management demands in commercial and military applications.

Increased Current Carrying Capacity

Using a combination of highly flexible 'S-Line' conductors and the latest Omnigard high-temperature insulation material Habia are able to increase the current carrying capacity of our power cables compared to the materials available in standard power cables.

Reduced Cable Size & Reduced Maintenance

The higher current carrying capacity of Hi-Flex power cables also enables reductions to be made in the conductor c.s.a. resulting in a smaller lighter cable. Hi-Flex cables are designed using materials to ensure a long flex-life and reduced strain on cable terminations, thereby reducing MTBF (Mean Time Before Failure) and providing a highly flexible power cable.

Ease of Installation

When designing in a power cable ease of installation is an important design consideration - the Hi-Flex design and construction eases routing of the cable within confined spaces and gives better access to connectors and equipment.

With a product range from 6mm² up to 400mm², Hi-Flex power cables address the design and performance requirements inherent in the latest commercial and military applications.
