SDE are assisting Norwegian ammunition manufacturer, Nammo, in their 25mm Armour Piercing with Explosive (APEX) development programme. As part of the development phase, SDE have provided independent support, employing the company’s extensive suite of advanced computer aided modelling tools.

SDE’s cutting edge flexible-body kinematic modelling capability has been used to confirm both dynamic operation and Strength of Design (SoD) of key components within the design, backed up by industry standard Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools.

The programme has also benefitted from use of proprietary SDE software such as ASPECT, for vulnerability/effectiveness modelling, and CCOM6 for external ballistics analysis.

As a result of this extensive modelling the qualification phase is expected to run smoothly.
