Brimar Ltd.
DVE System
Brimar has developed low cost multifunctional DVE system that allows the user’s to have a choice of either thermal imaging, ultra-low light and colour sensors in any combination which best matches their requirements.
The multifunctional display can except up to 7 video inputs as well as a multitude of communication protocols enable the system to internally generate HUMS graphics, navigation directions and even maps from an external source. The system can be programmed to be semi-automated to allow different views & functionality to be available dependent on the current driving scenario via a CanBus interface. Driver vision enhancement systems provide augmented information to improve the driver's perceptual ability when visibility is reduced. Vision enhancement is a technologically challenging mission. We have brought together a number of technologies and combined them to focus on the positive aspects of imaging systems such as visible, infrared and thermal to provide meaningful vision enhancement functionality to the driver.
Unlike other DVE systems Brimar’s does not rely solely on camera technology as the display also continues to process the video to extract the maximum performance out of the video signal.
Situational Awareness
Brimar has looked at this issue and has developed fully agnostic modular plug and play systems architecture for its displays and LSA systems as well as a complete range of sensor suites which will complement existing equipment. The solution offers a common skeleton architecture that allows multiple displays and auxiliary equipment to be changed ad-hoc therefore dramatically reducing the cost & time for new installations.
The system comprises of a central power/video/communication HUB or Signal distribution unit (SDU) which all equipment plugs directly into and can then be accessed by any of the vehicle crew. The SDU in its maximum configuration can handle up to 28 different video sources. Each of the four connected video displays can independently select a group of four video channels. The SDU can be equipped with different video interfaces or optional modules which can simultaneously process both analogue and digital video formats.
Rugged Displays
Advanced Bespoke Modular Display Systems
Brimar displays are designed to be at the heart of any system. With on-board processing, memory and flexible software the display can be tailored to act as the central control hub of any in-vehicle situational awareness system. Brimar designs, builds and qualifies a complete range of rugged flat panel displays with a variety of resolutions. All displays are built to operate in extreme environments while delivering the highest quality image to the user. Brimar can design a customised display housing which will use the fielded module concept to allow for flexible positioning of connectors, function keys & the overall footprint of the display.
Vehicle display systems must interface with a broad variety of on-board equipment, such as computers, sensors, cameras and networks. Brimar can tailor the video and communication interfaces to the specific needs of each programme. Thanks to our modular software architecture, Brimar can easily modify and adapt the functionality of each display system. A complete Human Machine Interface (HMI), using a customised menu structure or graphical overlay, can be programmed within the display to eliminate the need for extra computing hardware to control the system. Not only can the Graphical User Interface (GUI) be customised, but the communication with host computer, Health and Usage Monitoring Systems (HUMS) and sensors can also be easily programmed.
Panoramic Cameras
Brimar has developed a range of low cost panoramic sensors with field of view from 90° up to 360° in a range of sensor from high resolution colour to thermal. The camera is designed to work with a Brimar display so that all the image stitching is done in the display to offer a panoramic image that enables the user to pan left and right.
The triple sensors have also been designed to be used with the DDP (driver display panel) to offer maximum situational awareness while reversing or when on observation duty.
Light Weight Battery Operated Displays
The Brimar DP0047 Transflective 5.7” AMLCD flat panel display is a rugged display designed for harsh environments. Included in the standard features are one RS-232 communications port, one RS-422 communications port, one CANbus communications port, one VGA PC input and two PAL/NTSC video inputs. The transflective screen allows the display to be viewed in bright sunlight conditions, and internal battery operation means the display can be disconnected from the vehicle and used in man portable roles with up to 10 hours of life per charge.
