Explotrain Explains Misconceptions Concerning Blast Simulator Safety

Blast Overpressure Produced by Blast Simulators

Fort Walton Beach, FL:  In keeping with their reputation for providing the safest Explosive Simulators available, Explotrain® LLC is making an analysis of blast overpressure (BOP) produced by their Blast Simulators available to their customers.  While extremely high noise levels are the predominate occupational hazard produced by these devices, BOP is also a reason for concern and should be treated accordingly.  Unfortunately, a lack of understanding of the basic scientific principles involved has lead to the misconception by some that BOP produced by a Simulator is different in its physiological effects than BOP produced by actual explosives.  A recent peer reviewed article (see attached) written by Explotrain's president was published in the International Association of Bomb Technicians & Investigators official journal, The Detonator, explaining that the mechanisms of injury from BOP are consistent regardless of the source.

Explotrain's president, C. Dean Preston said, "Since 1998, Explotrain has worked very hard to ensure the quality of our products and the safety of our customers.  We were concerned about blast overpressure both from a realism as well as a safety stand point, and are the only Blast Simulator manufacturer to our knowledge to measure this effect as it is produced by our Simulators."  BOP levels produced by Explotrain's IED Simulators are well below the standards set forth by the Department of Defense if personnel remain beyond the safe standoff distances recommended by the manufacturer.

Since the development of their training system and Model X-01™ Explosive Blast Simulator in 1999, Explotrain has invented and produced much of the technology used to train troops in the areas of Explosive Ordnance Disposal and IED Defeat.  The X-PANDR Box continues those efforts and exemplifies Explotrain's innovative product development efforts to expand training tools to the instructional and classroom phases of EOD and IED education.  The X-PANDR Box is available for purchase through various government contracts or by contacting Explotrain directly.

About Explotrain LLC: Explotrain LLC is a small business based in Fort Walton Beach, FL.  Explotrain has produced state of the art explosive and IED simulation since their founding in 1998.  Their patented technologies are the choice of military and law enforcement training installations worldwide.
