FAUN TRACKWAY USA FOCUS ON UAV GROUND SOLUTIONS AT AUVSI

FAUN Trackway USA, the leading manufacturer of portable roadways and runways, is heading to Atlanta to showcase its UAV Landing Mat at the Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) defence show from the 4th to 7th May.

Launched in 2011 as a temporary airfield for drones, the UAV Landing Mat was the first product of its kind to be developed specifically for use with unmanned systems. The matting is made up of FAUN’s PSA Flat Top lightweight aluminium panels – designed especially for light carriers and UAVs – and can be laid where it is not practical or feasible to install permanent infrastructure.

The solution allows expeditionary forces to construct temporary runways, taxiways and hard standing areas for UAVs of any size or weight, providing a smooth landing, regardless of terrain. The UAV Landing Mat can be rapidly deployed by hand to prevent foreign object damage (FOD) in challenging environments and arrestor gear can be fitted to allow aircraft to quickly decelerate on landing and stop them overshooting the runway.

The Australian Armed Forces were the first to invest in the UAV Landing Mat a few months after its launch, placing an order worth US$1.2 million in December 2011.
