Timoney Celebrates 50 Years of Innovation

Since 1967 Timoney has been supporting the heavy off-highway market with automotive solutions

50 years of creating specialised driveline solutions, vehicle rolling chassis systems and transferring innovative technology across the world is being celebrated by Timoney at DSEI.

Timoney supports its customers by developing modular drivelines, independent suspensions and complimentary vehicle systems, and transferring the technology via licensing arrangements with vehicle OEMs or its manufacturing partners.  Through this expertise the company over the last 50 years has become a one stop shop for specialist vehicle development and automotive solutions.

“Timoney’s market penetration will grow exponentially through empowering its customers.  The market is large enough, our technology is powerful enough and we can adapt and flex better than almost any competitor,” said Shane O’Neill, Chief Executive of Timoney.

Founded in a small workshop in the centre of Dublin in 1967 by Professor Seamus Timoney and Éanna Timoney, the company won its first military contract in 1972 supplying the Irish Army with APCs which included novel features of the time – automatic gearboxes, independent suspension and large armoured glass viewing ports.

Growing in size the company moved out of Dublin in 1975 where it continued to establish its position as a leading innovator in suspension systems and vehicle design. The company succeeded in establishing major technology licensing deals for programmes such as the USAF P23 Fire Truck, the Thales Australia Bushmaster and the STK Bronco and Terrex families.

Timoney solutions continue to be adopted for new vehicle programmes across the world with the company’s technology transfer model becoming increasingly in demand in emerging territories and with developing nationsseeking commercial independence and local economic growth.

“The Timoney brothers created a centre of technical excellence for automotive systems which the current company are proud to have developed.  The original pioneers of heavy vehicle independent suspension, the company has supplied in excess of 20,000 systems fitted to more than 100 vehicle types in over 40 countries, Timoney remains focussed on supporting the heavy off-highway vehicle market and to introducing its technology into new markets and sectors,” added O’Neill.

Timoney is exhibiting on stand N7-311 during DSEI being held at the Excel Centre London from 12 to 15 September 2017.
