IFS Launches New Mobile App IFS Flight Log

Improves efficiency and accuracy for real-time tracking of operational data in the Aerospace and Defense industry.

IFS™, the global enterprise applications company, has launched its first mobile application for the Aerospace & Defense (A&D) market. The IFS Flight Log™ mobile app is designed to address the challenges faced by A&D organizations by enabling key operational data relating to flight, crew and vehicle to be captured in real-time on smartphones, and to integrate directly with the new IFS Applications 8-based asset management solutions.

The IFS Flight Log:

  • The first mobile extension of newly launched IFS Applications 8 Fleet and Asset Management solution.
  • Part of the IFS Touch Apps™ series launched by IFS to provide real-time connection between the mobile workforce and enterprise ERP systems.
  • Enables military and commercial operations to capture operational data on smartphones as part of their asset management solutions.

IFS Flight Log is part of the IFS Touch App series, and is currently available on Microsoft and Android mobile phones and is privately hosted to reflect the requirements of the A&D Industry. It enables key operational data to be recorded on smartphones and then relayed back in real-time into the IFS Applications 8 ERP system. It eliminates the need for paper records and lengthy keying-in processes by providing a full flight log of all events pertaining to any vehicle during operations, including flight details, disruptions, faults, crew associated with the flight, and pre- or post-flight inspections. The data captured, which was often previously scattered in different silos, is instantly integrated into IFS Applications 8 to enhance the planning, delivery and monitoring of ongoing maintenance activities.

“Mobile applications are becoming increasingly popular within the A&D market, as they offer a rapid and agile method to deliver capability, with organizations such as the UK MOD and the US Army already investing in mobile apps particularly to support training capabilities,” commented Graham Grose, Global Industry Director, IFS Defence. “And the app isn't just available for aircraft—it's applicable to any military asset, such as wheeled or tracked vehicles and ships. If we take the example of a reconnaissance vehicle in Afghanistan, they can record any damage, for example failure of digital radio assets or vehicle engine performance limitation, and this information can be instantly relayed back to the UK base.

“Long term, with the development and use of Apps, the military will no longer need to take their full suite IT with them on deployments, using the apps on-site to provide immediate operational updates. Mobile apps also offer the ability to dramatically reduce data and process overheads on soldiers. Combined with this ease of use and increased visibility, Flight Log will significantly improve efficiency within military and commercial operations, improve the accuracy of data captured, and dramatically simplify what is traditionally a slow, paper-based process,” concluded Graham Grose.
