Molecular Products’ life support technologies extend into CBRN filtration, with the manufacture of leading edge adsorbents for the removal of airborne contaminants, including TICs and TIMs, for both personal and collective protective equipment.

The latest product to be launched by Molecular Products is an innovative new portable, rugged oxygen generator - the ROG. The ROG is an emergency medical grade O2 supply for treatment of casualties at the point of injury. Un-pressurised and non-explosive, the ROG is designed for pre-hospital care in demanding environments.

Other key products areas and markets are: carbon dioxide absorbers for anaesthesia machines in healthcare; CO2 scrubber material for commercial and recreational diving; carbon dioxide and carbon monoxide absorbers for mining and industrial safety.

ROG - Medical Oxygen Generator

The ROG is a rugged oxygen generator that gives immediate access to a lifesaving oxygen supply. Designed for pre-hospital casualty care in demanding environments, the ROG is an innovative development in medical technology that will help increase survivability of defence and security forces.

In austere environments, the ROG enables patients to be oxygenated at the point of injury via a safe, reliable and non-explosive source. Small and light enough to be carried in a medical bag, the ROG does not require any maintenance, electricity, mixing or filling. Rugged in design, the ROG is portable, strong, durable and able to withstand robust use in rough terrain or confined spaces.

Unlike compressed medical oxygen cylinders, the ROG can be exposed to extremes of temperatures, operated in any orientation and has an extensive shelf life.

Activated Carbon Adsorbents

 

Molecular Products’ Chemsorb line of products is an outstanding choice for many critical filtration applications requiring activated carbon filtration media including:

Molecular Products manufactures highly efficient adsorbents for most gases that are not readily adsorbed by un-impregnated activated carbon. The proprietary reagents used to impregnate these high activity carbons have shown superior results for the adsorption of specific airborne contaminants.

For acid gases such as sulphur dioxide, chlorine, and hydrogen sulphide, Chemsorb 1202 is unsurpassed in performance and safety of use. Chemsorb 620 and Chemsorb 1425 are designed for removal of ammonia and organic amines. For formaldehyde removal, Chemsorb 1505 is the most effective adsorbent on the market today. Molecular Products can also develop and manufacture impregnated carbons to fit custom specifications.

MPOG (Multi-Purpose Oxygen Generators)

 

The MPOG (Multi-Purpose Oxygen Generator) and EO2-30 provide a safe supply of oxygen for critical life support and revitalisation in submarines and safe havens.

Both the MilSpec MPOG and EO2-30:

  • use a phosphorous match initiator mechanism that is both easy to use and easy to source
  • are in service with NATO navies across the globe
  • have a 10 year shelf life with no maintenance requirements
  • have been shock and vibration tested to meet the requirements of a submarine environment
  • are safer compared to pressurised and liquid oxygen systems
  • give 380 litres of breathable oxygen per litre of storage space
  • can be deployed in less than a minute

The MilSpec MPOG and EO2-30 use sodium chlorate technology to safely provide >98% purity. As a method of storing oxygen, sodium chlorate is roughly eight times more efficient than compressed air and twice as efficient as compressed oxygen.

Dive Grade Carbon Dioxide Absorbent

 

Military diving and submarine grade Sofnolime is a carbon dioxide absorbent, optimised for the removal of carbon dioxide from rebreathable gas in diving absorbers and submarines.

Dive grade scrubber material ensuring a safe, breathable air supply is maintained in closed circuit systems. It is optimised for the removal of carbon dioxide from recirculated air / nitrox / trimix in rebreathers and saturation dive systems. Specific benefits to the diver include:

  • High intrinsic carbon dioxide capacity
  • Low dust formation
  • Optimum performance contributing to a safer, longer dive

Three grades are available: D, L and S. The main differences between the three grades are particle size, shape, moisture content and testing regime. These grades also have differing absorption characteristics under various environmental conditions.

Hi-Cap Absorber

 

The Hi-Cap is a large scale absorber with proven capabilities for CO2 and CO absorption in life critical applications such as submarines.

The absorber design provides the increased use efficiency intrinsic to the larger scale absorber unit. It also provides a package that is easily handled and stores efficiently for long periods of time without degradation of performance or requiring any maintenance. The materials used are all long term compatible with the absorber.

The weight of the unit is designed to be within the handling capability of the target users. The units are built of high grade polypropylene plastics that do not contain additives likely to give rise to highly toxic fumes associated with some inhibited materials. The units are sealed with a clip top and bottom, to ensure long storage life protection from environmental contamination as well as keeping the contents fresh.

CASPA (Carbon Dioxide Self Powered Absorber)

 

The CASPA (Carbon Dioxide Self Powered Absorber) is a self-contained carbon dioxide absorption unit intended for the removal of respired CO2 in a confined space. The unit combines hi-tech battery and fan components with a carefully designed, volumetrically efficient, CO2 absorption material. The units are supplied with removable seals to ensure storage life in survival chambers. No annual maintenance or service interventions are required.

The Company was formed in 1957 to produce air filters, meeting the needs of the fast growing electronics, air conditioning & process engineering industries. The Company introduced and patented many innovative filter designs and has also made a significant contribution to the technology associated with activated carbon filtration. CBRN Filters and Safe-Change Filtration Units

For protection against Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear contaminants, these filters are produced to NATO specifications or custom designed for individual or COLPRO requirements. Among the range of CBRN filters produced by EMCEL is the latest generation of NATO radial flow combination filter, manufactured and tested in accordance with STANAG 4447.

   

In service with many NATO and other Navies, this filter provides CBRN protection through a combination of HEPA media and impregnated carbon granules integrated within the same casework. A Training Filter version of this Radial is also available. Manufactured to exactly the same dimensions, these filters are used to simulate weigh and airflow resistance within the system when CBRN filtration is not required.

EMCEL design and manufacture Safe-Change CBRN Units for a wide variety of critical applications including:  Government Forensic Departments, Testing Facilities, Laboratories, Mail Rooms, Decontamination Sites and Strategic Building Protection. The units can be fully sealed or built to incorporate Safe-Change systems with a combination of Pre- Filters, HEPA Filters and Activated Carbon Filters to provide CBRN protection. TIC (Toxic Industrial Chemical) Filters can also be supplied if required.

Activated Carbon Filters

For the removal of odours, gases and vapours, EMCEL Activated Carbon Filters are suitable for many military applications where it is necessary to improve air quality within an enclosed area.   EMCEL Slimline Filter Units are well suited for applications where a high level of filtration is needed but where space, in particular the filter depth, restrictions applies.

   

A range of composite activated carbon storage tank Breather Filters has been developed by EMCEL Filters to control the pollution effects of discharges to atmosphere. This is particularly relevant in cases where the displaced air, arising from tank filling or temperature effects, contains odorous, hazardous or toxic vapour contaminants.

HEPA Filters

For the high efficiency removal of airborne particles. EMCEL manufacture an extensive range of cylindrical and rectangular HEPA filters suitable for Hospital and Medical environments where protection from dust/particle exposure is critical.

 

For example: Laboratories, Glove Boxes, Clean Rooms, Sick Bays, Operating Theatres. All filters in this category are individually tested and certified in-house by EMCEL utilising our own comprehensive range of test equipment.

Particulate Filters and Pre-Filters

For dust control or pre-filtration. EMCEL manufacturer an extensive range of Particle Filters   suitable for NBC/CBRN applications. These filters are extensively used for Pre-Filtration in naval vessels, fighting vehicles and land based systems to protect the CBRN filter system from dust and large particle invasion. Many differing, cleanable or disposable, filtration medias are available.

   

Frames/caseworks can be manufactured in painted mild steel, aluminium or 304/316 stainless steel. Filters produced to NATO or UK MoD Standards if required.

Flame retardant UL94 V-0 recognised air filters; A unique range of cleanable, foam air filters has been developed by EMCEL specifically for components and applications that are required to meet UL94 V-0 Flame Retardancy Test.

Military CBRN Respirators and Masks

50 Series of Military Mask/Respirators

The 50 series is the most comprehensive set of respiratory solutions on the market today. Through this range, Avon has introduced novel ground breaking technology to the industry with features such as a wide panoramic optically correct flexible polyurethane visor for maximum field of view and enhanced weapons compatibility.

 

Included in the 50 series are the FM50 (a military mask), the C50 and FM53.

The C50 General Service Masks

The C50 General Service Mask was developed in line with the latest NATO requirements, and has achieved both CE and NIOSH CBRN certification. It gives the user unprecedented levels of protection, comfort and versatility in the most hostile of environments.

 

It offers full integration with helmets, CBRN protective clothing and communication systems. With the appropriate filter, the C50 can protect against a wide range of CBRN threats including chemical warfare agents, toxic industrial chemicals and materials, biological and radiological hazards and riot agents.

The FM53 Respirator Mask

The CE approved FM53 is the only mask of its kind, offering users the highest levels of versatility, comfort and protection. It features a lever which allows the wearer to easily switch between negative (filter) and positive (SCBA) pressure with a simple operator movement. Its unique shape allows for the easy incorporation of a helmet interface, and it includes a superior communication interface allowing dual coms and VPU use, as well as an ability to be used with SCBA, PAPR and filters.

 

It also includes a drinking system that is capable of drawing half a litre of water in three minutes to rehydrate the specialist user during periods of high intensity workloads. With the added benefit of CE certification, users from both the military and civil sectors now have a multifunctional mask that they can use in any given CBRN situation without the need to change equipment.

The ST53 Multi-role Respiratory System

The CE approved ST53™ is the most technically advanced respiratory system on the marketplace today, and is now available to civilian organizations such as police forces and emergency response teams.  The ST53™ offers a selection of respiratory possibilities when in the heat of a threat scenario.

 

With the FM53 at its heart, and a choice of short (seven or 14 minutes) or long duration (up to approximately 60 minutes) compressed air cylinders, it is possible to enter a location on filter mode, assess the situation, and then change to SCBA mode if the need arises without having to leave and change equipment. With a range of accessories available as well, it is the perfect versatile system for building and confined space entry where the threats are unknown.

FM12 CBRN Respirator

The FM12 is one of Avon’s legacy masks, and is probably the most widely used respirator across the world by military and law enforcement organizations. It provides high levels of respiratory protection against both classical chemical warfare agents and toxic industrial materials.

 

It has CE and NIOSH accreditation, and is the mask of choice for the Quick Don CBRN ensemble – a complete CBRN personal protection equipment suit for the UK police that can be donned in five minutes.

The NH15 Emergency Respirator Hood

The NIOSH approved NH15 is the smallest single use Emergency Hood on the market. It gives the wearer a high level of respiratory, eye and face protection against all airborne CBRN threats and liquid agent splashes for a minimum of 15 minutes, enabling users to evacuate from a contaminated area. The clear material it is manufactured from has been designed to aid the wearer with recognition of other people and objects as well as allow for superior visual communication. Finally, the NH15 is compact, easy to don and has the ability to be stored in a glove compartment, in desk drawers or worn on a utility belt, allowing easy access and therefore an effective response.
